New Family Bruinlink | Summer 2017
Welcome to UCLA!
As parents of UCLA students –a recent Class of 2017 graduate and rising junior– we know firsthand how exciting this transition period is in your family’s life. Whether your new Bruin is finishing up high school or preparing to transfer from another college, we know you are keenly interested in supporting your student as they continue their educational journey. UCLA recognizes the importance of family and parents as part of an overall support network enabling your student to thrive. The University welcomed us four years ago as parents joining a community we now consider family. We welcome you now as well! You will find that your students are not the only ones who will grow and learn; parents and family members can gain so much from being involved as well.
This special edition of Bruinlink is just for you! The UCLA Office of Parent & Family Programs (P&FP) recognizes the changing dynamic of the student/parent relationship as your student becomes more independent, but wants to provide you a channel for important information and access as well. Bruinlink exists as a quarterly e-newsletter for families of undergraduate students to stay connected with the University and have awareness of campus services, issues, opportunities and wealth of amazing campus events available to you and your student. The UCLA PFP Office also provides a special telephone and email helpline especially for parents. It is a terrific resource which acts as a parent liaison to all parts of the University!
Lastly, there are great opportunities for parents and family to become directly involved with the UCLA campus community! The UCLA Parents’ Council and the Parent Association exist to coordinate and provide support to this great University. As 2017-18 Parent Council Co-Chairs, we invite you to consider volunteering and even becoming a member of the Parents’ Council organization. It is a great way to personally experience the spirit, energy, and optimism which embodies being a Bruin! We love being actively involved in the campus community. Sometimes, we even see our own students! We look forward to seeing you all at Bruin Family Weekend which will take place October 20-22, 2017.
