Since 1936, UCLA has supported new generations of Bruins through scholarships. The Alumni Scholarships Program is leading the charge by providing support at the bookends of the UCLA experience.

The UCLA Alumni Scholarships Program facilitates the awarding of over $1.5 million in scholarships on behalf of our many generous alumni networks and donors annually. One of the few merit-based leadership scholarships available to new incoming students, the Alumni Scholars enter UCLA ready to make a direct impact on campus.

While most scholarships are for new incoming students, the Alumni Scholarships Program has a special award open to all UCLA seniors who have excelled inside and outside of the classroom and are poised to make positive and dynamic change in the world. Known as the True Bruin Distinguished Senior Award, this recognition comes with a $5,000 scholarship.

Like all Alumni scholarships, this award depends on alumni support to read and score applications and interview finalists. Following application review, alumni volunteers join the top 20 finalists on campus every fall for round table interviews followed by a luncheon honoring all finalists and their achievements. During the interviews, finalists are asked to reflect not only on their achievements at UCLA, but also how their education has prepared them to tackle real world challenges. This year, alumni designated 10 students as winners of the award and $5,000 scholarship.

Winners are recognized on the UCLA Alumni website and in the commencement issue of the Daily Bruin, and are given special stoles to designate them at UCLA commencement.

If you would like to volunteer to read applications and hear the stories of these incredible students or would like to participate as a volunteer during other scholarship selection programs including freshman, transfer student, or the Lew & Edie Wasserman Grant application for needs-based funding, please email alumnischolarships@support.ucla.edu.

Are you the parent or family member of a current third year? The application for True Bruin Distinguished Senior Award for the Class of 2020 will open this summer. We invite you to encourage your student to apply for this opportunity. The application will be available here.
