Welcome to UCLA!

As parents of two UCLA students – a 2017 graduate and a rising senior – we have seen firsthand how the entire family can share in the UCLA experience. Whether your new Bruin is finishing high school or preparing to transfer from another college, we know that you seek to support your student as they continue their educational journey. UCLA recognizes the importance of family as part of an overall support network enabling your student to thrive. When our older son began his studies at UCLA in 2013, we were enthusiastically welcomed into a community that we now consider our family. We are thrilled to now welcome you as well! Along with our students’ wonderful opportunities for growth at UCLA, you will quickly discover that UCLA invites us to share in that journey.

This special edition of Bruinlink is just for you. The UCLA Office of Parent & Family Programs (PFP) recognizes the changing dynamic of the student/parent relationship as your student becomes more independent. To help facilitate this process, the staff provides a channel to access important information and resources. Bruinlink exists as a quarterly e-newsletter for families of undergraduate students to stay connected with the University and to be aware of campus services, issues, opportunities, and a wealth of amazing campus events available to you and your student. The UCLA PFP also provides a special telephone and email helpline specifically for Bruin parents and families. This is a valuable resource that acts as a liaison on our behalf to all parts of the University.

Lastly, there are wonderful opportunities for parents and family members to become directly involved with the UCLA campus community. The UCLA Parents’ Council and the Parent & Family Association exist to coordinate and offer support to this exceptional University. As the 2018-19 Parents’ Council Co-Chairs, we invite you to consider applying to become a member of our council. It is a unique way to personally experience the optimism and passion embodied by the Bruin community. We truly love and treasure the privilege of serving as volunteers on the campus that has become so dear to our family. Little did we know that, in addition to our students receiving a world-class education at the #1 public university in the nation, we would also embark upon our own life-changing journey with like-minded families and the incredibly devoted staff at UCLA. We wish you the very best this summer and look forward to seeing you all at Bruin Family Weekend which will take place October 26-28, 2018.

Go Bruins!
