New Family Bruinlink | Summer 2020
Welcome to UCLA
Congratulations to your student! What a proud moment to be starting UCLA. As parents of rising seniors at UCLA, one of us living here in Los Angeles and one across the country in Philadelphia, we have seen firsthand how exciting this transition period can be in your family’s life. Whether your new Bruin is finishing up high school or preparing to transfer from another college, we know you are keenly interested in supporting your student as they continue their educational journey. UCLA recognizes the importance of family as part of an overall support network enabling your student to thrive.
When our students respectively began their time at UCLA, the University welcomed us as parents joining a community we now consider family. We are thrilled to now welcome you as well! You will find that your students are not the only ones who will grow and learn; parents and family members can also gain so much from being involved.
This special edition of Bruinlink is just for you. The UCLA Parent & Family Association (PFA) recognizes the changing dynamic of the student/parent relationship as your student becomes more independent, but they also aim to provide you a channel to access important information and resources. Bruinlink exists as a quarterly e-newsletter for families of undergraduate students to stay connected with the University and be aware of campus services, issues, opportunities and a wealth of amazing campus events available to you and your student. UCLA PFA also provides a special telephone and email helpline specifically for Bruin parents and families. It is a terrific resource which acts as a liaison on our behalf to all parts of the University.
The UCLA PFA helpline is available via phone at (310) 794-6737 and via email at email@example.com.
Lastly, there are great opportunities for parents and family members to become directly involved with the UCLA campus community. The UCLA Parents’ Council and the Parent & Family Association exist to coordinate and provide support to this great University. As 2020-21 Parents’ Council Co-Chairs, we invite you to consider applying to become a member of the council. It is a great way to personally experience the spirit, energy, and optimism embodied by the Bruin community. We love being actively involved on campus and, while we know this academic year will look very different than those of the past, we hope we will have the opportunity to meet you on campus later this school year. Wishing you and your family health and joy as you embark upon this new journey together.
