Is your Bruin graduating this spring? Give the ultimate graduation gift with a trip to Europe! UCLA Alumni Travel has curated the trip of a lifetime for newly graduated students. In this piece Suz Park, UCLA Alumni Travel assistant director and proud Bruin alumnae, shares about the evolution of the grad trip and how you can help your student embark on an adventure they will never forget.

If you’re the parent of a senior Bruin, your student is already halfway through their final year at UCLA. You must be so proud that in just six months your student will graduate with an unparalleled education, ready to make their mark on the world. How might you celebrate such an amazing achievement?  Book your student to participate in the 2019 UCLA Alumni Grad Trip!

UCLA Alumni Travel, founded in 1941, has offered grad trips for seniors for the last eighteen years. As the assistant director of the program, I recently had the opportunity to launch a redesigned trip exclusively for recent graduates. Having graduated from UCLA myself, it is a personal passion of mine to make the grad trip the best it could be for Bruins beginning their post-grad lives.

In 2017, we made some changes to the trip in an effort to create a more memorable experience. With a new tour operator, lower price point, UCLA-exclusive departure and more inclusions in the tour package, we were thrilled to see the positive feedback from travelers. 30 engaged Bruins traveled through nine countries in Europe, enjoying the (guided) freedom to explore the world and creating new friendships and memories to last a lifetime. The 2019 departure is shaping up to be even better, as feedback from the 2018 travelers led us to include more excursions in the package and a more comprehensive tour for participants. The inclusive, community-oriented focus of the grad trip allows travelers to connect with each other and learn about the world without the stress of doing so on their own.

There is so much more to the grad trip than the trip itself. Purchasing our special early bird package by Thursday, Dec. 20 also ensures a memorable end to your student’s time at UCLA. By booking early, participating students earn incentives such as access to Spring Sing, one of UCLA’s signature events, and special swag including sunglasses and a coveted I <3 UCLA tank top. Upon graduation, your student will also receive a UCLA Alumni Association Blue Membership (valued at $100) which provides exclusive benefits beyond the general membership all alumni receive. Additionally, I am personally available to answer any questions you or your student may have to ensure a positive experience as you prepare for the trip.

At UCLA Alumni Travel, our goal is to create an unforgettable experience for you and your student. We are invested in your family’s process from booking through your student’s return home. Looking to hear some firsthand experience? Last year Jas Ralph, Parent ‘18, surprised her graduating son with the UCLA Grad Trip. She says, “I wanted to surprise my son with this amazing gift as his Christmas present. Suz created and wrapped up ‘trip vouchers’ in a beautiful box with ribbons for me to give to him. The look on my son’s face was priceless and he couldn’t believe he was going to Europe. He made some good friends on this trip and lifelong memories. He thanked me for that wonderful experience and it was so worth it. I am glad UCLA helps parents to be able to get their children these wonderful opportunities. I loved this trip even though I wasn’t on it.”

Megan Llamas ’18 shared, “I received an email about the trip but didn’t pay much attention to it. However, both my parents received emails and pushed me to sign up for the trip! I’m very glad they encouraged me to join. I know other fellow travelers who were also encouraged by their parents to sign up. Thank you for such a special experience! What an incredible way to celebrate graduation!” Sometimes even graduating college students need their parents to give them the nudge to experience something new. This is your opportunity to encourage your student to take the trip of a lifetime. To learn more and book your student’s trip, visit the UCLA Alumni Travel website. We hope to see your Bruin in Europe next June!
